Six Welsh Painters & a Potter

We are delighted to be holding this special one off exhibition to celebrate our Welsh Artists and this show is a salute to Wales.

Our history with Welsh Art began in 1970 with Kyffin Williams. Kyffin’s work truly speaks for itself and we have chosen a very unusual and magnificent still life, “Peonies, 1973” to represent him.

He held the position as our one and only Welsh artist for twenty-six years until Claerwen Holland joined us in 1996. Her work, mainly in pastels, are simple and charming paintings of people, mostly strangers observed.
Following on, in 2000, Kyffin introduced us to the remarkable artists William Selwyn and Eleri Mills, both of whom are steeped in the rich tapestry of Wales, the people, landscapes, both literal and imaginary.

By now we had fully entered our love affair with Wales and the sincerity and strength of the work being produced. This feeling deepened and we were very fortunate to then meet Darren Hughes at the start of his career in 2004, Phil Rogers, a renowned potter and Gareth Parry in 2007, all highly talented.
