Brian Fojcik

Year first exhibited:
1996

Brian Fojcik was born in Kirkcaldy, Fife in 1960. He studied painting and drawing at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee, from 1979-1983. He completed a further Postgraduate course there from 1983-1984, where he was taught by Alberto Morrocco. In 1992, he was Elected Member of the Society of Scottish Artists, and in 1993, became an Elected Member of Scottish Artists and Artists Craftsmen. Brian teaches art part time both at the local school in Kirkcaldy, and as rehabilitation, at HM Prison Saughton, while continuing to develop his own painting.

The inspiration for Brian's work is drawn mainly from the figure; whether it be amateur boxers, men at the dog track, or more recently, industrial wreckers. His subjects are not always easy, and the mood is often dark, but in everything he creates, there is a sense of real human life.

Over the last few years, Brian has been concentrating on a new body of work, based around circus life. His focus is the weird and wonderful world behind the scenes, the performers and animals at rest.

Brian Fojcik has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 1996.
