Darren Hughes
Darren Hughes was born in Bangor, Wales, in 1970. From Gwynedd Technical College, Bangor from 1989-1990, he went on to study at Falmouth School of Art & Design, Cornwall from 1990-1993. In 1994, he completed a one year Postgraduate degree at Cyprus School of Art, Paphos.
He recently moved from Bethesda, Wales, a dramatic slate mining town on the edge of Snowdonia to Waunfaur, which has taken him nearer to the Irish Sea. It is a landscape that is constantly transforming, stone is removed, light changes with glimpses of the sea, and Darren captures all this with a striking honesty.
Darren has had solo exhibitions in London and Wales, and has work in the National Library of Wales, and the Royal Cambrian Academy. In 2001, he was awarded Young Welsh Artist of the Year at the Royal Cambrian Academy.
Darren Hughes has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 2004. He is currently working towards a solo show with us for 2011.
