Jennifer McRae
Jennifer McRae studied painting at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen from 1987-1992 and received a First Class degree in Fine Art.
On completion of her studies she moved to Edinburgh where she joined the Edinburgh Printmaker's Workshop as well as continuing her work as a painter, and worked on several collaborations with the Edinburgh Printmaker's Workshop. The experience helped sustain the graphic qualities which are important to her in painting.
In 2002 Jennifer moved to London,after being offered a bursary place on the Drawing Year at the Prince's Drawing School. She set up a studio in Southwark, where she continues to practice today. Jennifer's first solo exhibition at Thackeray Gallery in 2008 was influenced by a sabbatical that she took to travel extensively throughout Italy. The show entitled 'the art of travel' was a great success.
Over the years she has received awards as either the Winner or Runner-Up from the BP Portrait Award, the Hunting Art Prizes, the Singer Friedlander and Kaupthing Watercolour prizes, the Morrison Scottish Portrait award and most recently the Honourary Society of Painter Stainers Award. Her latest prize received in August 2008, is as the Winner of the RWS/Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, for her painting entitled "David by the window, Spencer's Belle Vue".
Jennifer's work has been exhibited both in the UK and the US and she has often used travel to find her inspirations. In 2009, Jennifer's work will be exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Show in London, and following on from that her next solo show will be with us in May 2010. Her work can be found in several public collections including the National Portrait Gallery, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Reading Museum amongst others and is also included in private collections both in Europe and the US.
Jennifer McRae joined Thackeray Gallery in 2007.
