Eleri Mills RCA
Eleri Mills was born in Wales in 1955. Growing up on the family farm, she spent her time helping her father with the animals, while her mother instilled in Eleri the myths and traditions of ‘bardic’ Wales. In 1977, she went to Manchester Art School, where she completed a BA Honours in Art and Design. This time in Manchester gave her a new perspective and deeper understanding of the history of Wales, which clearly inspired her work from then on. By the time Eleri returned to Mid Wales, she was totally committed to communicating the love of her land through her paintings.
Eleri’s work is individual, and instantly recognisable. She is a master at working with both hand-stitched pieces and mixed media paintings. She depicts a vision of Wales that is multi layered; highly personal; timeless; poetic; real; and other worldly. Whilst rooted in a passion for the history of ancestral Wales, her work is also contemporary.
Eleri is an elected member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and her work has been exhibited throughout Europe, the USA and Japan. In 2009, a four piece installation was exhibited at the National Assembly for Wales. Most recently in 2010 Eleri won the Creative Wales Ambassador award by the Arts Council of Wales.
Eleri has had solo exhibitions in both London and Wales over the last ten years, and her work can be found in many public and private collections worldwide.
Eleri has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 2000.
