Carole Waller

Year first exhibited:
2005

Carole Waller studied painting at Canterbury College of Art before completing a Masters degree in Fine Art Textiles at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Detroit, Michigan. Carole lives and works just outside Bath.

Carole's work falls into a unique category. Some people see it as 'painting', some see it as 'sculpture'. It is both. She paints on unstretched cloth which is then laminated between toughened UV protected glass, creating a three dimensional installation. These works of art can be placed both within indoor or outdoor environments. Her subject is inspired by the human form, often life size, making them magnificent statement pieces.

Carole's work can be found in the costume and textile collection at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Craft Study Centre Collection, and in Birmingham City Art Gallery. She has exhibited internationally since 1987, primarily in London and New York.

She has received awards from the Arts Council, the Crafts Council and from UK Trade and Investments. In 2005, she was awarded a major Arts Council Grant to develop new work using glass and textile on a large scale. The aim was to place that work in an outdoor context, as already achieved in her ealier commissions for Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire in 2003 and Salisbury Arts Centre in 2005.

Carole Waller has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 2005.
