Phil Rogers was born in Newport, Wales, in 1951. He spent a year at Newport College of Art, before going on to study at Swansea College of Art, from 1970-1974. It was there that he first explored working with clay. After graduating he took up a teaching post in Cambridgeshire, before returning to Wales, in 1978, to set up his first workshop in Rhayader. In 1984, he moved to Cefn Faes Farm, Rhayader, where he has continued to work since. He has conducted workshops worldwide and has written several books on salt and ash glazed pottery. He has been chair of the Crafts Potters Association, and in 2004, became the first potter to be elected to the Royal Cambrian Academy. In 2007 a book called "Phil Rogers - Potter" was published in the USA and following that, a documentary on Phil has been released entitled "Phil Rogers - A Passion for Pots".

Phil's work continues the tradition of Bernard Leach, Michael Cardew and Shoji Hamada. His pots are elegantly simple and functional, and are as at home in a public gallery setting as in a private home. They invite contemplation.

Phil has exhibited widely in the UK, USA and Asia. His work is in many public collections including: Victoria and Albert Museum, London; National Museum of Wales, Cardiff; Philadelphia Museum of Art, USA; Royal Ontario Museum, Canada; Detroit Institute of Art, USA; Museum of Ceramic Art, Mashiko Japan and the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Mino, Japan.

Phil Rogers has been exhibiting with Thackeray Gallery since 2004.
